José Callejón biography

José María Callejón Bueno (born 11 February 1987 in Motril, Province of Granada) is a Spain Association football who plays for RCD Espanyol, as a Midfielder Winger or Forward (association football).

José Callejón twin brother, Juanmi Callejón, is also a footballer, and both were Real Madrid C.F. graduates.

Club career

A product of Real Madrid C.F. youth ranks, Callejón made José Callejón professional debut for Real Madrid Castilla in May 2007, and played four games in 2006–07 Segunda División's Segunda División without scoring a goal.

In 2007–08, José Callejón played in 37 games and scored 21 goals, finishing the season as the clubs' top goalscorer, now in Segunda División B.

At the end of the season, Callejón left Real Madrid (as twin brother Juanmi Callejón) and signed a four-season contract with RCD Espanyol. José Callejón made José Callejón La Liga debut on 20 September 2008 as a Substitute (association football) in a 1–1 home draw with Getafe CF.

International career

Callejón made José Callejón debut for the Spain national under-21 football team on 25 March 2008 against Kazakhstan national under-21 football team, in an 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship qualification. José Callejón came in at the 46th minute, replacing Bojan Krkić, and scored a goal just 15 minutes later, in a 5–0 final win.

On 15 March 2009, as Espanyol struggled immensely in the league - eventually 2008–09 La Liga - Callejón netted José Callejón first goal for the Catalonia, in a 3–3 home draw against RCD Mallorca. José Callejón continued to be an undisputed starter under Mauricio Pochettino in the following seasons, operating mainly as a Midfielder Winger.

On 15 January 2011, Callejón scored twice as Espanyol defeated Sevilla FC away (2–1).

On 23 May 2011, Callejón rejoined Real Madrid on a five-year contract, effective as of 1 July, for a reported fee of €5.5 million. On 16 July, he played his first match for the Merengues, in a 4–1 friendly win with the Los Angeles Galaxy, scoring the first goal of the game in the 30th minute.
